Voice to Action: International Day of Democracy
The UN marked the 18th International Day of Democracy with “,†the first event in the Goals Lounge at UN Headquarters. Organized by the UN Office for Partnerships, the gathering celebrated 20 years of the UN Democracy Fund and brought together diplomats, UN officials, and civil society to discuss the future of democracy.
In a special message, UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated, “Democracy is powered by the will of the people, the voices of choices and their participation. Democracy that excludes is not democracy at all.â€
Speakers stressed that democracy must deliver for everyone, especially women and youth.
The event closed with a shared commitment to defend and advance inclusive democracy.
