The much-anticipated ¡°Gifts on the Second Floor¡± special tour returned in January, welcoming UN staff and delegates from countries around the world for a guided exploration of some of the most iconic spaces within United Nations Headquarters.

Held over three fully booked days on 13, 14, and 16?January, the tour invited participants to discover selected works from the United Nations Gifts Collection, located on the second floor of the Conference and General Assembly Buildings.

Through guided interpretation, visitors learned how these artworks and objects, donated over decades, reflect the cultural diversity, history, and values that shape the work of the Organization.

Led by Visitors Services Tour Guides Ben (Germany), C¨¦dric (France), Herta (Austria), Regina (Greece), Silmara (Brazil), and Yuta (Japan), the tours combined historical insight with engaging storytelling.

Participants explored highlights such as the Dodo sculpture, symbolizing fragility and environmental responsibility; the Palau Storyboard Eel, illustrating the deep connection between people, nature, and tradition; and the Replica of Anyanwu, representing rebirth, hope, and the strength of humanity.

Each stop offered a moment to pause, reflect, and view familiar corridors through a new lens.

Staff and delegates alike expressed enthusiasm for the experience, noting how the tour brought fresh meaning to spaces they pass through every day.

By focusing on stories, symbolism, and historical context, the guides helped transform architectural landmarks into living narratives that resonate across cultures.

Once again, strong participation and positive feedback confirmed the tour¡¯s status as a staff favourite. The return of ¡°Gifts on the Second Floor¡± demonstrated how guided tours continue to enrich the Headquarters experience, turning everyday spaces into opportunities for learning, connection, and inspiration.
