The theme of the Consultations will be “Engagement with Latin American Civil Society & Palestinian Diaspora: “A Call for Action to Ensure Recovery and Healing in Gaza and to End Israel’s Illegal Occupation”. \nSince the beginning of the Gaza war\, CSOs intensified their advocacy work on bringing Israel’s accountability via third states’ obligations not to assist the ongoing war and displacement of Palestinians in Gaza. They have notably been calling for states to impose a two-way military embargo on Israel\, covering the export\, import and transhipment of all arms\, military equipment and technology\, as well as dual-use items in the OPT. Human rights groups continue to call to “pull the plug” on the economy supporting Israel’s illegal occupation. CSOs have also focused on the enforcement of diplomatic sanctions by suspending cooperation in academic\, cultural and sports events\, as well as of targeted sanctions that would put travel bans and asset freezes on individuals and institutions complicit in Israel’s war on Gaza. \nIn this mobilization and public pressure\, Latin American civil society have stood as effective and consistent in their efforts to challenge Israeli impunity and protect Palestinian lives. Historically\, Latin America has been home to vocal opposition to the occupation\, dispossession and displacement of the Palestinian people\, placing the region at the forefront of global solidarity with the Palestinian cause. There are more than 700\,000 Latin Americans of Palestinian origin\, living in 14 countries in the region\, and playing prominent roles in the political\, economic and social life of their countries. \nWith the Consultations taking place after the High-Level Conference on the Implementation of the Two-State Solution in September\, and the subsequent adoption of its New York Declaration by the UN General Assembly\, they will be timely to engage with the largest Palestinian diaspora and pro-Palestine and indigenous movements\, stemming from the shift in many Latin American governments and to share outcomes of the New York conferences and new roadmap. The Consultations would also serve as a platform to call for the joint Member States-CSO intensification of efforts to abide by its legal obligations and responsibility under relevant UN resolutions and to promote a multilaterally-sponsored peace process\, including civil society\, parliamentarians\, regional organizations and others\, to end the illegal Israeli occupation\, realize the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights and achieve a just and lasting peace. \nThe event will be open to member states\, media and public. \nTo register for in-person participation at ECLAC\, Santiago de Chile\, follow this link.\n  \nPROGRAMME  \n10-10.30 a.m. OPENING SESSION  \n Statements by:  \n\n Mr. José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs\, Executive Secretary of ECLAC\, Representative of the UN Secretary-General \n H.E.
