In 2025, the 80th year after the end of the Holocaust, the Lebensborn Project was invited to perform at the United Nations International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.
The Lebensmelodien Project was founded by musician Nur Ben Shalom, a third-generation Holocaust survivor in response to a letter from his great-aunt Salomea Ochs-Luft, a Jewish pianist, to her family shortly before she was deported in April 1943. In her letter, she begged her relatives to avenge her death.
Nur Ben Shalom realized that he could honour Salomea¡¯s call by making known the music that gave comfort to Jewish people in the face of approaching death. The Lebensmelodien Project uses the power of music and storytelling to preserve and teach the history of Jewish melodies composed, sung, or played during the Holocaust. The ensemble, featuring renowned classical musicians, performs these pieces alongside narration by a well-known actor, bringing to life the stories of Jewish musicians and communities from that time.
