The project provided 14 capacity building activities to T/PCCs to deploy appropriately trained personnel. These entailed trainings and training-of-trainer (TOT) courses.

Synopsis

Objectives

The project aims to strengthen the capacity of African T/PCCs, and those who support African T/PCCs, to deploy personnel who are trained to DPO and DOS standards to UN-led peacekeeping operations.

Main achievements

The project completed 14 activities, benefiting 230 personnel, including 37 women: one UN infantry battalion TOT (19 participants), one UN National Planners course (27 participants, including 6 women), one Peacekeeping Military Intelligence TOT (12 participants, including one woman), one Operational Logistics Officer TOT (19 participants, including 5 women), two mobile training teams (Gabon: 18 participants and Rwanda: 20 participants, including three women), three UN Police pre-deployment training courses (Turkey: 33 participants including five women, Italy: 18 participants, including 3 women, Finland:14 participants, including 2 women), one police Light Coordination Mechanism meeting, three training course on design and delivery of training (Police Specific Induction Training: 13 participants, including four women; Design and Delivery workshop: 12 participants, including four women; Police Specific Induction Training programme: nine participants, including four women), and the pilot course in peacekeeping-intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (16 participants), using the materials developed in the project.

Impact

By strengthening the capacity of T/PCCs to deploy appropriately trained personnel, the project supports both efforts to protect and sustain peace (participation in global governance) and to build strong training institutions which are intended to be self-sufficient and reflect the norms of the United Nations.
