
The Counter Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and the Special Rapporteur on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights while Countering Terrorism are pleased to invite you to the side-event on ¡°The definition of terrorist acts and international human rights law¡±.
This side event will bring together representatives from Member States, United Nations entities, criminal justice and human rights experts and civil society organizations, to discuss the human rights considerations of terrorism definitions. It will seek to raise awareness of the human rights implications of the vague and broad definition of terrorism and terrorist offences, take stock of existing good practices and remaining gaps observed in Member States¡¯ approaches, promote the implementation of international human rights law and relevant Security Council resolutions, incorporation of international human rights norms and standards in national counter-terrorism legislation and policy, including by further building on existing guidance to codify terrorist offences in a manner compliant with international law, including international human rights, international humanitarian and international refugee law.
