They discussed Nigeria's partnership with the United Nations in addressing regional and global challenges. The Secretary-General's stressed the country's role in resolving the crisis in Cote d'Ivoire, especially through its leadership in ECOWAS. They discussed the importance of the African Union in addressing the situation in Libya. The Secretary-General also commended Nigeria's strong contribution to the Security Council.
The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister also discussed Nigeria's contribution in efforts to counter terrorism and to curb the proliferation of small arms and their illicit trade.
They also talked about Nigeria's commitment in support of the Global Strategy for Women's and Children's Health and the positive example set by the country in harnessing the public and private sectors to meet the health Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
