The Secretary-General met yesterday with Victor Gbeho, Chairman of the ECOWAS Commission, in Abuja, Nigeria.
The Secretary-General commended ECOWAS for its important role in addressing the situations in Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea and Niger, and its strong partnership with the United Nations.
The Secretary-General and the Chairman discussed counter-terrorism, the illicit trade of small arms and drug trafficking in West Africa. They also talked about the partnership between the African Union, ECOWAS and the UN Office for West Africa (UNOWA).
