The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Habib Essid, Prime Minister of the Republic of Tunisia. The Secretary-General expressed appreciation for the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and called for Tunisia’s active support in integrating the SDGs in national planning and legislation. The Secretary-General also commended Tunisia for the continued progress made in consolidating its democracy.
They discussed cooperation in the fight against terrorism and the UN’s readiness to assist Tunisia through capacity-building projects and the Global Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism.
The Secretary-General thanked Tunisia for its strong support to UN’s efforts in Libya, including by hosting the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
