Frontier Tech Leaders Programme
Digital technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Data Science hold enormous potential to address global challenges like poverty and climate change. However, those opportunities are unevenly distributed, especially in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs). Challenges such as the digital divide, high costs, and a lack of technical talents hinder digital technologies adoption. Young people, particularly women, often face limited access to these technologies. This presents an opportunity for both youth employment and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
To bridge this gap, the UNDP ICPSD’s SDG AI Lab and UN Technology Bank for LDCs (UNTB) established the Frontier Tech Leaders (FTL) Programme. In 2023 the Programme was officially launched as a global multistakeholder initiative during the 5th UN Conference on the LDCs in Doha, Qatar. The Programme will raise a new generation of tech specialists to develop digital solutions for the LDCs and strengthen local capacities. Furthermore, the initiative will inspire young people as well as promote gender equality, encouraging women to pursue tech education and careers.
The Frontier Tech Leaders Programme will raise a new generation of tech specialists to strengthen local capacities and develop digital solutions for the LDCs towards achieving the SDGs. The Programme envisions a world where all LDCs have capacities to address development challenges using frontier technologies.
