Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mrs. Catherine Samba-Panza, Head of State of the Transition of the Central African Republic

The Secretary-General met today with the Head of State of the Transition of the Central African Republic, H.E. Mrs. Catherine Samba-Panza.

The Secretary-General highlighted the critical importance of an inclusive political process, led by the Central Africans themselves. A broad-based political agreement, he noted, was needed to undertake essential governance reforms, including with respect to the security sector and the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration of former combatants.

The Secretary-General called on the Head of State of the Transition to fully support the implementation of the Urgent Temporary Measures mandated by Security Council Resolution 2149. He encouraged continued efforts in the sensitisation campaign on and prevention of conflict-related sexual violence.

The Secretary-General assured the Head of State of the Transition of the United Nations’ steadfast support to help address the current crisis, notably through the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission, MINUSCA.
